Ardbeg – Corryvreckan (70cl, 57.1%)

Ardbeg Corryvreckan is an Islay single malt Scotch whisky bottled at 57.1% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It takes its name from the whirlpool to the north of Islay. The colour is deep amber. The character is peaty and peppery, and the whisky is described as powerful on both nose and palate. On the nose there are tar, creosote and linseed oil, with dark chocolate, blackcurrant and muscovado sugar, then cherries and pine needles. Water brings out pepper, oysters, seaweed, smoky bacon, vanilla and cloves. The palate is peppery and chewy, with black coffee, dark fruit and bitter almond, and the finish is long, with coffee, chocolate-coated cherries and hot pepper sauce.
