Ardbeg Smoketrails Côte Rôtie is the second release in the Smoketrails series, an Islay single malt bottled at 46% ABV. It is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour.
The distillery combined ex-bourbon casks with wine casks from the French Côte Rôtie. The wine casks bring blackberry, blackcurrant and cranberry to the dense peat smoke, with cool menthol notes alongside. This bottle comes from batch FR/CR 2023/02-ST.
The nose pairs peat smoke with peppery barbecue notes, grilled artichokes and peppers, and a little brine. On the palate, spicy barley malt meets dark forest fruits, with blackberry and blackcurrant to the fore.
