Ardbeg Smokiverse is a limited Islay single malt released for Ardbeg Day 2025 and for the 25th anniversary of the Ardbeg Committee. It matured in bourbon casks and is bottled at 48.3% in a 70cl bottle, without chill-filtering or added colour.
For this release Ardbeg changed its mashing, using less water and more grain to give a particularly concentrated spiciness. The experiment also encouraged fruity and sweet aromas. Sweet peat smoke, creosote, dark sugar, wood and charcoal sit alongside barley and tropical fruit.
The nose suggests smoked bubblegum, ripe barley and toasted sourdough. The palate is rich and creamy, with creosote, aniseed and clove, then muscovado sugar. The finish is very long, with earthy peat moss and glowing embers.
