Ardnamurchan – The Midgie 2026 (70cl, 48%)

The Midgie is an annual small-batch Highland single malt from Ardnamurchan Distillery, first released in spring 2024 and named after the Highland midge. This 2026 edition was bottled at 48% in a 70cl bottle, without chill filtration or added colouring, in a run of fewer than 9,000 bottles. It combines unpeated and peated spirit matured in tawny and ruby port casks and in unpeated bourbon barrels. The tawny port casks bring an earthy, saline note, while the bourbon casks give orchard fruit alongside the berry sweetness of the port. The nose offers fresh raspberries, ripe plums and red berries, with white pepper, coastal salinity and a thread of peat smoke. The finish is fruity, slightly earthy and smoky.
