Bain's Single Grain is a South African whisky made from yellow maize and distilled in column stills at the James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington, Western Cape. It is bottled at 40% ABV in a 70cl bottle, chill-filtered and with added colour.
It matures for about three years in first-fill bourbon casks, then spends a further 18 to 30 months in a fresh set of the same. When it launched in 2009 it was South Africa's first single grain whisky.
The nose combines banana and blossom with honey, roasted hazelnuts, toffee and vanilla. The palate is soft and creamy, with vanilla, cocoa butter, light spice, oak and a hint of popcorn. The finish is gentle and warm.
