Ballechin 10 Year Old Heavily Peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky (70cl, 46%)

Ballechin is a heavily peated 10 year old single malt made at the Edradour distillery in Perthshire. It takes its name from another Perthshire farm distillery, which closed in 1927. Production of Ballechin began in 2003, using barley peated to no less than 50ppm. This bottling is mostly ex-Bourbon casks, with a generous top dressing of ex-Oloroso sherry casks. It is bottled at 46% without chill-filtration. The nose is herbal and grassy with sweetened smoke. On the palate, chocolate oak sits over spicy, earthy smoke, and the finish recalls smouldering heather.
