Basil Hayden 10 Year Old is a Kentucky straight bourbon made at the Jim Beam distillery in Clermont, bottled at 40% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It uses a high-rye mash bill, with twice the usual rye content, and spends ten years in new charred American oak.
The decade in wood brings prominent oak, char, vanilla and caramel, with the rye spice running through.
The nose is big on oak and char, with hints of vanilla and spice. The palate pairs rye pepper and spice with caramel sweetness and wood, and the finish is long, with caramel, oak and lingering spice.
