Basil Hayden Malted Rye is a rye whiskey made at the Jim Beam Distillery in Clermont, Kentucky, and sold in a 75cl bottle.
The mashbill is 100% malted rye, with no corn, wheat or unmalted grain. The rye is germinated and then kiln-dried before mashing, a step more often associated with single malt Scotch whisky and brewing than with American rye.
The nose is floral, with soft vanilla and toasted rye bread. The palate is bready and floral, with light oak, caramel and cinnamon, and the finish brings baking spice, chocolate and warm spice.
