Benromach – 2003/2025 22 Year Old 1st Fill Bourbon & Sherry Casks Wu Dram Clan (70cl, 55%)

This Benromach is a Speyside single malt bottled for Wu Dram Clan. It combines whisky from two first-fill sherry casks and two first-fill bourbon barrels, all filled in 2003. After 22 years the four casks were vatted and bottled in 2025 at a cask strength of 55%, giving 1,076 bottles in 70cl. The whisky has natural colour and was not chill-filtered. The bourbon barrels contribute mango, papaya, coconut, smoke and a salty depth, while the sherry casks add raisins, hazelnuts, dark chocolate and an earthy, mineral side. Smoke stays a fine companion throughout. The nose opens with green apple, lemon zest, vanilla and honey, then ripe peat smoke, smoked strawberry, teak and tobacco. The palate is creamy and oily, with raisins, dark chocolate and leather. The finish is earthy, smoky and spicy.
