Benromach 40 Year Old is a Speyside single malt, the first annual batch release of this age, with 1,132 bottles made worldwide. It was laid down in 1981 and spent four decades in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks. It is bottled at a cask strength of 57.6% and is natural in colour.
It is the oldest expression in the distillery's new look range, launched in June 2020.
The nose brings cinnamon, ginger, Seville orange, roasted hazelnut and stewed red berries. On the palate come Morello cherries, baked apple, liquorice, dark chocolate, fruit cake and black pepper. The finish carries dark berries and rich oak.
