Big Peat 12 Year Old is a blended malt from Douglas Laing, made with whiskies from Islay. It is the first permanent release in the Big Peat series to carry an age statement, bottled at 46% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
The familiar peaty character is still there, with added depth and complexity. The nose has bonfires on beaches, ready salted crisps, brown sugar and a hint of liquorice. On the palate come sea breeze, earthy peat, peanut brittle, oak, flamed orange peel and toasted sesame seeds. Heavy peat smoke lingers on the finish for minutes.
