Big Peat 25 Years Gold Edition is an Islay blended malt from Douglas Laing, made from Bowmore, Caol Ila, Port Ellen and Ardbeg. It was distilled in 1992 and bottled in 2017 at a cask strength of 52.1%, in a 70cl bottle, with an outturn of 3000 bottles. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour. It is the first of three vintage releases in the Big Peat series.
Smoke leads, softened a little by age. The nose has boat varnish, sandy beach and a smoky barbecue in the background. The palate is sweet and peaty, growing warmer with tar oil, black pepper and chimney smoke. The finish is warm and sweet, with damp bonfire ash, coal smoke and roast meat.
