Big Peat The Vienna Edition 1 Douglas Laing (70cl, 55.1%)

Big Peat The Vienna Edition 1 is a blended malt from Douglas Laing, bottled in 2018 at cask strength, 55.1%, in a 70cl bottle. The blend draws on malts from Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila and the closed Port Ellen distillery, among others. It is non-chill-filtered, of natural colour, and has a smoke level of around 40ppm. This edition was filled for Austria and limited to 600 bottles. The nose is a big Islay one, with smoky, medicinal peat, seaweed, tar and sea salt, alongside sweet malt, roast meat, tobacco, chocolate and vanilla. The palate is full-bodied, with peat smoke, iodine, tobacco and salt. The finish is long, salty and phenolic.
