This is Black Bush 1608, an Irish whisky from the 1990s. The nose combines leather, mocha and apples with cinnamon, allspice and cloves, plus sweet vanilla, a light floral top note and fresh wood reminiscent of pencil shavings. On the palate wood is strong throughout, with black pepper spice in the mid-palate that fades, a slight sweetness, a surprising flash of banana and some citrus. The finish is oak with a hint of lingering spice.
