This is an Islay single malt Scotch whisky from Bowmore, distilled in 1989 and bottled at 45.3% in a 75cl bottle after thirty years of maturation. It is a limited edition of 2,580 bottles.
The whisky matured in sherry hogsheads and bourbon barrels in Bowmore's No. 1 Vaults, which the distillery describes as the oldest Scotch whisky maturation warehouse in Scotland. It sits partly below sea level on the shore of Loch Indaal.
The nose has heather honey, ripe banana, peach, pineapple, orange peel and black tea. The palate is lush with tropical fruit, marmalade and chocolate, and peat smoke arrives late. The finish is long, with stone fruit, light smoke and a hint of salt.
