Bruichladdich – 16 Year Old Pessac-Léognan

This is a 16 year old Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, an unpeated whisky with a maritime character. It was first matured in American oak casks, then given an extra period in ex-red wine casks from Pessac-Léognan, in the Graves district of Bordeaux. The nose brings blackcurrant, dark cherry, dried fruit and vanilla, framed by oak, leather and a touch of sea salt. The palate is layered, with ripe berries, roasted nuts, chocolate, herbs and a slightly mineral note from the wine casks. The finish is long and rounded, balancing sweetness, fruit and spice.
