This is a 27-year-old vintage Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, part of its Rare Cask Series. It spent its first 17 years in American oak bourbon casks, followed by 10 years in French Bordeaux red wine casks.
It was bottled at cask strength on 7 December 2017 at 49.5%, in an outturn of 12,000 bottles. It is non-chill-filtered and free of added colour.
The nose is soft and complex, with plenty of berry fruit, caramel, nuts and chocolate. The palate brings dried fruit, milk chocolate, toffee, hazelnuts, walnuts and vineyard peach. The finish is long and oily, with dried grapes, sour cherries, cedar and hazelnuts.
