Bruichladdich Octomore 13.1 is a heavily peated Islay single malt at 137.3 ppm, bottled at 59.2% in a 70cl bottle. It was distilled in 2016 from Concerto barley, all Scottish and harvested in 2015, and matured for five years in first-fill ex-bourbon casks. It is non-chill-filtered and free of colouring.
After those five years the whisky was filled into fresh first-fill ex-bourbon casks in 2021, a small addition that brings notes of dark toffee and coconut.
The nose is nutty and smoky with malty sweetness, apricots in syrup, ripe pear, coconut, almond and charcoal. The palate is sweet and soft, with smoked apricot jam, crushed barley, peat bog, burnt heather, citrus and blackcurrant. The finish moves from sweetness to earthy, mossy notes, herbal smoke, salted lemon, geranium and rose.
