Bunnahabhain – 12 Year Old Pride of Islay Madeira Casks (Thompson Bros.) (70cl, 46.1%)

This is a 12 year old Bunnahabhain single malt from Islay, bottled by Thompson Bros. in their Pride of Islay series. It is a limited bottling at 46.1% in a 70cl bottle, non-chill-filtered and without added colour. The last five of its twelve years were spent in first-fill Madeira barriques. The style is unpeated and maritime rather than smoky. On the nose, ripe red berries meet walnuts and a sea breeze. The palate brings walnut oil, juicy fruit sweetness and fine sea salt. The finish is nutty, gently dry and lasting, with a light saltiness.
