This is a 1987 Bunnahabhain, a single malt from Islay, gold in colour.
The nose is fresh and coastal, with sea air, sandalwood, mineral oil and citronella wax, plus a salty, nutty edge. In time it turns waxy, herbal and tea-like. With water it softens towards heather flowers, verbena, dried mint and a hint of fennel.
The palate brings dried seaweed, umami paste, peppery wax, tea tree oil, crystallised citrus rind and menthol tobacco. The finish is long and drying, with salinity, pepper, bitter lemon and soft herbal teas.
