Bunnahabhain Feis Ile 2023 is a limited release from the most northerly distillery on Islay, in a 70cl bottle. Bunnahabhain is known for unpeated, sherried single malts, and this one was fully matured in Canasta sherry casks.
Those casks once held blended sherries made from Palomino and Pedro Ximenez grapes. The Oloroso element brings spice, while the PX adds richness, sweetness and complexity.
The nose is classically sherried, with caramelised fruit, honey roasted nuts, cinnamon, clove and a hint of rancio. Maple syrup, vanilla, dried figs and poached pears lead the palate, and the finish is long and sweet with brown sugar, red apples and vanilla custard.
