Caol Ila 12 Year Old is an Islay single malt from the Classic Malts series, matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It is chill-filtered and has added colour.
Smoke is the starting point, set against a light to medium body. Fruity freshness and sweetness sit alongside a soft mouthfeel, and a little water brings out oily and floral notes on the nose, with some salt and light acidity on the palate.
The nose is fresh, with restrained citrus, bath oil and medicinal mouthwash. The palate opens sweet before a light, fragrant smoke arrives. The finish is long, with sweetish smoke and a slightly sour edge.
