This Caol Ila was distilled in 2008 and bottled in March 2023 by Gordon & MacPhail as Connoisseurs Choice Cask Strength, at 52.8%. It is a 14 year old Islay single malt, non-chill filtered and of natural colour.
It matured in a first fill sherry butt and yielded 373 bottles. The bottling marks Han van Wees's 60th anniversary in the whisky business.
The nose brings smoke, dark fruit, raisins, smoked ham, honey and dried herbs. The palate is round, mixing sweet and smoky notes with figs, red fruit, baked apple, pepper and nuts. The finish is long and warm, with smoke, grasses, menthol and oak.
