This is Caol Ila 18 Years Old, a single malt from the Caol Ila distillery on Islay, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle.
After eighteen years of maturation, the peat smoke of Islay sits alongside softer, riper notes. A maritime character, gentle spice, oak, sea salt and a light sweetness run through it.
The nose has smouldering bonfires and peat smoke with salty sea air, wet wool, mineral touches and beeswax. The palate is soft and smooth, with a lightly sweet start, fresh acidity and sea salt. The finish is long and slightly dry, with lingering smoke, charred oak and a hint of sourness.
