This is a 40-year-old Islay single malt, distilled at Caol Ila in 1980 and bottled in 2021 by Douglas Laing for their XOP (Extra Old Particular) range.
It comes from a single refill hogshead, DL14963, which yielded 206 bottles. It is bottled at its cask strength of 54.6% in a 70cl bottle, without colouring or chill filtration.
The nose has an oceanic West coast of Scotland character with subtle phenols. The palate offers leather, malted barley, spices and a honey-glazed smoked meat quality. The finish brings more peat smoke, dried citrus fruits and oak bonfire embers.
