This is an 18 year old Islay single malt from Caol Ila, distilled in 1984 and bottled from a single cask, number 5755, under the First Cask label. It was bottled at 46%, in a 70cl bottle.
Caol Ila is peated, and its character becomes more woody with age. Here that shows as a musky, older-tasting peated whisky.
The nose is elegant peat, sweet, fruity and light, with mango, apricot, a warm spice and a musky wood note. The palate has fruity sweetness, mellow spice, nutmeg, cinnamon and peat. The finish is long, with sweet peat and mango, turning drier and almost wine-like.
