This is the 2018 edition of the official Caol Ila 25 year old, a single malt bottled in 2018 at 43% ABV. It has a gold colour.
The nose combines gentle medicinal notes with dried seaweed, shellfish, lemon-infused olive oil, dried herbs, a little petrol and old-fashioned cough medicine. The palate brings medicinal balms, cooking oils, gentle smoke and soot, with an earthy, herbal peat. Camphor, ink, waxed canvas and a pebbly minerality sit alongside. The finish is of good length, resinous, coastal and salty, with smoked fish, black pepper, olive tapenade and oyster sauce.
