Caol Ila Distillers Edition is an Islay single malt in a 1 litre bottle, bottled at 43% ABV. It was matured in refill ex-bourbon casks and then finished in Moscatel wine casks.
The Moscatel finish adds honeyed fruit, grapes and a light dryness to the coastal peat of the distillery.
The nose combines coastal peat, damp ashes and a medicinal smokiness with dried apricot and gentle fruit sweetness. On the palate, full-flavoured smoke with a sweeter, barbecue-like edge sits alongside pepper, cinnamon and a clean maritime character. The finish is long and smoky, with citrus, sea spray, lavender and a spicy, drying fade.
