Caol Ila – Distillers Edition

This is a single malt from Caol Ila, the Islay distillery on the north-east coast of the island near Port Askaig. The Distillers Edition is double matured: the whisky rests first in American oak, then takes its finish in Moscatel casks. The Moscatel finish adds a gentle sweetness to the house style of malted barley and peat smoke. The nose is led by peat smoke, clear and well balanced. On the palate the sweetness of the Moscatel meets cinnamon and a touch of herbs, with deep campfire smoke beneath. The finish is long, with smoke and fine spice lingering.
