This is a 2024 estate-grown Chardonnay from Chalone Vineyard in California. Planted in 1919, it is the oldest producing vineyard in Monterey County, set 1,800 feet above the Salinas Valley.
The vines grow on limestone and decomposed granite soils, which give the wine the mineral edge it is known for.
On the nose there is brown butter, toasted caraway, crème brûlée, lemon and clotted cream, with banana, lemongrass and honey in the winery's own notes. The palate brings guava paste, persimmon, vanilla flan and baking spices, finishing on wet slate and river rock minerality.
