A 2017 Sauternes from Château d'Yquem, a Premier Cru Supérieur, in a 37.5cl half bottle at 14% abv.
The grapes are mainly Sémillon with a smaller share of Sauvignon Blanc, affected by noble rot and picked by hand between 26 September and 13 October after a hot summer. Very low yields and strict selection give concentrated musts, which are fermented and matured in barrel.
The nose combines baked apricot, pineapple, honeycomb and brioche with orange blossom and saffron. The palate is lush, with papaya, mango and tangerine cream, a saline lift and bright acidity against the sweetness. The finish is very long, with toasted almond, vanilla pod, pie crust and a touch of burnt caramel.
