Château Lynch-Bages 2010 is a red Pauillac from a Fifth Growth estate on the gravelly Bages plateau, near the entrance to the appellation. The Cazes family has owned the property since 1934, having bought it from the Lynch family, who were of Irish descent. Jean-Charles Cazes has run it since 2006.
2010 was a great Bordeaux harvest, and this wine is deep inky purple, built around concentrated cassis fruit with firm, powdery tannins and lively acidity.
On the nose there are roasted cedar, tobacco and bay leaf, with black fruit, crushed stone and graphite. The palate brings currant, blackberry and black cherry, an iron-like grip and juicy acidity, ending on a tar-tinged finish with plum pit and licorice.
