Château Pontet-Canet 2019 Pauillac (75cl)

A 2019 red from Château Pontet-Canet in Pauillac, Bordeaux, in a 75cl bottle. The estate covers 81 hectares of quaternary gravel over a subsoil of clay and limestone, and has farmed biodynamically across the whole property since the 2005 harvest. Chemical weed killers are banned, fertilisers are organic, and part of the vineyard has been worked with horses since 2008. Fermentation takes place in concrete truncated cone-shaped vats, filled by gravity without pumping. The 2019 season began with a mild winter and a cold snap in May, followed by an even flowering and a summer of ripening. Merlot was picked from 23 September, then Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, with Petit Verdot among the last grapes in.
