Chateau St. Jean Cinq Cépages is the winery's flagship Bordeaux-style red from Sonoma County. The name means 'five varieties', and the 2022 blends 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Malbec, 9% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Winemaker Mari Coyle assembled it from sites including Cherryblock, Knights Valley, Alexander Valley and Lancaster Estate.
The wine spent twenty months in French oak, 70% of it new.
The nose offers graphite, leather, plum skin, espresso and violets. On the palate come blackberry, black cherry, cedar spice and dark chocolate, with velvety tannins and good length.
