Chief's Son – 5 Year Old Batch 1 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company) (50cl, 52.1%)

This is a five-year-old Australian single malt from Chief's Son, a small distillery in Victoria founded in 2016 by Stuart and Naomi McIntosh. It was bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company at 52.1% in a 50cl bottle, without chill-filtering or added colour. The whisky matured in a former Apera wine cask, a fortified wine similar to sherry. Batch 1 comes from the Return to Oz collection and was filled into 462 bottles. The nose combines rich malt and a touch of smoke with a cedar cigar box, toffee apples, cherries and a hint of liquorice. On the palate it is full-bodied, with burnt mint toffee, stewed plums, oak spice and earthy peat. The finish is spicy, with a gentle trace of smoke.
