Cockburn's 20 Year Old Tawny Port is an aged tawny from Portugal's Douro Valley, in a 75cl bottle. It is blended from cask-aged wines with an average age of at least 20 years, made from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão.
The wines are fortified and aged in wood casks, where slow oxidation builds the amber-gold colour and nutty character. The house aims for a lighter, more citrus-led style and a drier finish than is usual for a 20-year tawny.
Roasted walnut, butterscotch, toffee and honey lead the nose, with cedar, cinnamon and candied orange peel. The palate is creamy, with maple syrup, peach, nectarine, vanilla and caramel. It closes long and dry, with caramel and roasted nuts.
