Dad's Hat is a young Pennsylvania rye whiskey bottled at 45% ABV, in a 750ml bottle. The mashbill is 80% rye, 5% malted rye and 15% malted barley.
It is matured in charred 15-gallon casks, much smaller than the usual 53-gallon barrels. The smaller size gives more wood contact for the volume of spirit, which speeds up maturation. The whiskey is a medium amber colour.
The nose is clean, with fresh grass, spice and floral notes. On the palate cinnamon and dark cherries come first, followed by tobacco and vanilla. The finish is medium, with spicy oak.
