This is a 12 year old Ardbeg from Islay, bottled by Darkness in a 50cl bottle at a natural cask strength of 51.5% ABV. It is non-chill filtered.
The whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks before a finish in Oloroso sherry octave casks, small barrels that bring more contact with the wood.
The nose is peat smoke and sea spray with raisins, roasted nuts and dark chocolate. On the palate, sherry sweetness, espresso, burnt sugar and smoked oak sit around Ardbeg's maritime peat. The finish is long, smoky and warming, with cocoa, spice, dried fruit and a touch of salt.
