Delva Extra Special Old Special Brand is a Scotch whisky in a one-litre bottle at 43% ABV. It was distilled in the 1930s or earlier and bottled in 1976. Its history runs through the Second World War. British forces captured Tobruk in January 1941 and found barrels of Scotch whisky, rum, Cognac and gin there. Axis forces under General Erwin Rommel took the barrels when the British surrendered the city in 1942, and shipped them towards Nettuno. After the Allied landing at Anzio, General Mark Clark had the liquor bottled at the small Delva distillery in Nettuno. In 1976 the US Army's alcohol procurement office bought the several thousand bottles that remained.
