This is a six-year-old Reserve Bas-Armagnac from Domaine de Jean-Bon in Toujouse, Gascony. It is a blend of Baco and Ugni Blanc, distilled on a travelling alambic armagnacais, a short copper column still.
The spirit was aged for six years in 400-litre French oak barrels and bottled in 2022 at 49.8% abv.
The nose is complex, with pencil eraser, wet wildflowers, mushroom, tarragon, almond biscotti and sun-baked soil. The mid-palate brings sharp herbs, dried apricot, flaxseed and lemon zest, and the finish ends on dried bay leaf and eucalyptus.
