Domaine Georges Roumier Clos de la Bussière 2023 Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru (75cl)

This is the 2023 Clos de la Bussière from Domaine Georges Roumier, a Premier Cru of Morey-Saint-Denis in Burgundy. The walled vineyard, a former property of the Abbey of La Bussière, has been a monopoly since the 12th century and sits in the south of the appellation. The grapes are picked and sorted by hand, 80% are destemmed and fermentation relies on indigenous yeasts alone. The wine is neither fined nor filtered and spends 16 months in oak barrels aged between 2 and 8 years, a quarter of them new. It is fleshy and powerful, with black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, firm tannins and a touch of the rusticity typical of Morey-Saint-Denis. Time in bottle adds length on the palate.
