Château Romassan is a Bandol rosé from Domaines Ott, which established the estate in 1956. The vineyards cover 148 acres at the foot of Le Castellet, on poor soils of limestone, sandstone and marine upper Cretaceous marls, with sea air from the Bay of Bandol.
Bandol is the only appellation in France that requires at least 50% Mourvèdre in its rosé, which gives these wines more weight, spice and structure than lighter Provence styles. The wine comes in the amphora-inspired bottle that Domaines Ott has used since the 1930s.
In the glass it is textured and broad without feeling heavy, with floral orchard fruit, rosewater and orange confit, and a touch of sea salt on the finish.
