Drumshanbo California Orange Citrus Gin (75cl, 43%)

This is an Irish citrus gin from The Shed Distillery in Drumshanbo, County Leitrim, bottled at 43% in a 75cl bottle. It is slow-distilled in copper pot stills and infused with fresh California orange peel. It builds on the distillery's Gunpowder Irish Gin recipe, which uses 8 pot-still-distilled and 4 vapour-infused botanicals, among them gunpowder green tea, makrut lime and coriander seed. The orange peel is the defining addition. On the nose there is sweet orange and candied citrus peel, with juniper and green tea behind. The palate brings juicy orange, then herbal spice and mild bitterness from the tea, before juniper and oily orange peel take over. The finish is smooth and dry, with orange zest, a touch of orange candy sweetness, gentle floral notes and dried herbs.
