Edradour – 12 Year Old Caledonia (70cl, 46%)

Edradour Caledonia is a 12-year-old Highland single malt, first released in 2009 and part of the range ever since. It is bottled at 46% ABV in a 70cl bottle, without colouring or chill filtration. The name comes from a tie-in with the Scottish singer-songwriter Dougie Maclean, whose song Caledonia was written in 1977. The whisky started in bourbon casks and was then finished in Oloroso sherry casks, which have given it a deep natural colour. The nose offers sultanas and figs balanced with honey. The palate brings Christmas cake, toasted almonds and a hint of orange spice, with a syrupy texture. A little water brings out more depth, with the fruit and Oloroso wood coming forward. The finish is gently warming, spicy and dry.
