Edradour Caledonia 12 Year Old is a single cask Highland single malt chosen by the songwriter Dougie MacLean and named after his song Caledonia, which he wrote in 1977 on a beach in Brittany. It is bottled at 46% without chill filtration.
The whisky matured first in bourbon casks, then spent four to five years finishing in oloroso sherry casks. Edradour was founded in 1825 in Perthshire.
The nose is sultanas and figs balanced by honey. The palate brings liquid Christmas cake, toasted almonds and a hint of orange spice, and the finish is long, dry and spicy, with a warming feel.
