Elijah Craig 15 Year is a single barrel Kentucky straight bourbon from Heaven Hill, aged fifteen years in new charred American oak and bottled at 54% in a 750ml bottle. The mashbill is 78% corn, 10% rye and 12% malted barley.
Heaven Hill's tasting panel tried a range of strengths on these barrels before settling on this one. The 54% also nods to 4 May 1964, when Congress recognised bourbon as a distinct product of the United States.
The nose is dark fruit and figs with a light lift of roses. Roasted nuts, toasted oak, caramelised sugar and chocolate-cherry lead a full, rich palate, and the long finish brings crème brûlée, ginger, cloves and black pepper.
