Elijah Craig 23 Year Old is a single barrel Kentucky straight bourbon from Heaven Hill, drawn from Barrel #114. It was distilled on 27 April 1990 and aged for 23 years in Bardstown.
That date places the barrel among the so-called prefire stock: whiskey still maturing when a 1996 fire at Heaven Hill destroyed more than 90,000 barrels.
The nose brings toasted oak, dark caramel, leather, dried cherry, tobacco and aged vanilla. On the palate come dark fruit, toffee, bittersweet chocolate and dried fig, leading to a very long, dry, oak-driven finish.
