A 12 year old Kentucky straight bourbon from Heaven Hill, bottled undiluted at a barrel strength of 62.8% (125.6 proof) without chill-filtering or added colour. Batch A123 was the first Elijah Craig Barrel Proof release of 2023, issued in January. The code reads as first release, January, 2023.
The mash bill is 78% corn, 12% malted barley and 10% rye, and the bourbon matured in new charred oak casks.
The nose offers rich caramel, sweet charred oak and cherry wood with vanilla and fudge, plus light mint and pine. On the palate caramel and tannic charred oak carry blackberry, plum and vanilla. The finish opens with chilli and cinnamon, then nutmeg and a drying leather note.
