Elijah Craig Small Batch is a Kentucky straight bourbon bottled at 47% ABV in a large 1.75 litre bottle. It is distilled by Heaven Hill in Bardstown and aged for 8 to 12 years in new charred American oak.
The mashbill is 78% corn, 10% rye and 12% malted barley. Each batch is bottled from no more than 70 barrels, and the #3 char on the oak shapes its caramel colour and its vanilla and toasted wood character.
Honey and brown sugar lead the nose, with sweet corn, vanilla, fresh mint and stone fruit. The palate brings roasted nuts, vanilla, molasses, dry oak and cinnamon. The finish is long, sweet and slightly toasty, with nutmeg and a little smoke.
