Elijah Craig Straight Rye is a Kentucky rye whiskey from Heaven Hill Distillery, named after the Reverend Elijah Craig, often called the 'Father of Bourbon'. Its mashbill is 51% rye, with corn and malted barley making up the rest, and it is aged in Level 3 charred oak barrels.
The nose offers dark chocolate, toasted oak and baking spices over vanilla, dark caramel and a hint of fresh orchard apples. The palate opens with honey, vanilla cream and butterscotch, then turns to black pepper, cinnamon and clove. The finish is long and warming, with toasted oak, some sweetness and a peppery rye prickle.
